The Metro Transit North Loop Bus Garage was a joint venture construction project between Knutson Construction and Adolfson & Peterson Construction for an estimated $113 million. Seated on 11-acres, this 350,000 sq. ft. two-level facility serves as a bus garage for maintenance, fueling, washing, and parking as well as hosting administrative offices and rooftop parking.
Bus load requirements posed a unique challenge for this building design. Large numbers of buses in and out of this facility would put a continuous load-bearing strain on expansion joints. MM Systems engineers worked to develop three levels of fire rated expansion joints to accommodate the service conditions. This system combines an epoxy bonded fire barrier, a watertight winged gland traffic joint, and a heavy-duty metal cover plate to fully support the structural requirements.
Our Engineering Team worked with our certified installers at Paragon Restoration Contractors to ensure the joint transitions were technically accurate and assisted with as-built site conditions that required designs to pass through the structural columns.
