John Lewis Memorial Bridge

Nestled in the Northgate neighborhood of Seattle, the John Lewis Memorial Bridge serves to link the east and west sides of Interstate-5 (I-5). A historically divided area, the bridge allows safe access to the light rail station, jobs, and retail centers for pedestrians, bikers, and skaters alike—bringing the community together.

Because the bridge is open to both pedestrians and bikes, it was imperative that our expansion joints provided the most seamless transition between surfaces. Our Rubber Safety Cover (Dual Hinge) (RSC) is designed for covering expansion joint openings in high volume pedestrian and vehicular traffic areas. It accommodates for the vertical offsets that a bridge might produce but also provides a smooth transition between surfaces for pedestrians and bikers. Slip-resistant rubber strips provide an extra level of safety for a variety of weather conditions.
