MM Systems has been the manufacturer of choice on numerous international seismic projects. With an average 206 earthquakes per year, Santiago, Chile needs dependable hospitals designed to resist earthquake damage.
With the vital need for hospitals that could withstand natural disasters, our seismic systems helped meet that need. During the design phase, a fully functioning mockup was fabricated on our campus in Atlanta, disassembled and shipped to Chile for demonstration to the Client and Chilean government officials responsible for approvals. No other manufacturer was willing or able to perform that service. Because of our demonstration of commitment, MM was awarded the project.
Our Moat Joint Concrete-Infill Seismic System (MJC) creates seismic movement capabilities as well as a flush “hidden” joint sightline—making it virtually indistinguishable from an ordinary sidewalk or concrete apron around the building perimeter. After a seismic event, the MJC System resets to its nominal position and joint size opening— making it functional for daily use as well as accommodating seismic activity without being sacrificial.
